- ‘Pterodactyl’ is a self-heading hybrid between Anthurium podophyllum and A. pedatoradiatum, grown for deeply divided, bird-foot foliage. The variegated form carries sectoral cream-to-white marking that varies from leaf to leaf and is not stable.

All parts contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Chewing causes oral pain, drooling, and swelling; ingestion can cause vomiting. Contact a veterinarian or poison control if ingested.

Propagation
- Division at repotting. Separate basal offsets with roots attached in spring; pot into fresh aroid mix and keep humidity high for 2–3 weeks.
- Stem sections. Mature stems can be cut into sections with at least one node and eye, calloused for 24 hours, then rooted in damp sphagnum. Slow, and only practical on leggy plants.
- Seed — not recommended. Hybrids do not come true from seed, and variegation is not seed-transmitted. Commercial variegated stock is propagated by division or tissue culture.

FAQ
- Why is my plant losing its variegation?
- Sectoral variegation is unstable. Reversion is more likely in low light; cutting back to the last well-variegated leaf when repotting can encourage marked new growth, but nothing guarantees it.
- Why are the white parts browning?
- White tissue has no chlorophyll and burns first — from direct sun, low humidity, or fertilizer salts. Move it out of direct light and check humidity before changing anything else.
- My new leaves have fewer lobes. Is that normal?
- Juvenile leaves are simpler; lobing deepens with maturity and adequate light. A mature plant producing simple leaves usually needs more light.
- Is it rare?
- The standard form is now common. Variegated plants remain collector material — propagated slowly by division, priced by sector quality rather than size.
